British-Australian artist Emmie Lou, brings to life a quirky abstract universe inspired by her love of vintage French cinema, Italian road trips, Human Design, and Mystical Femininity. Each piece is a portal to into an imaginary world where silhouetted figures are immersed into vibrant whimsical scenes, a true antidote to the incessant need to document our lives on social media. Her paintings serve as reminder to live in the moment and to enjoy the boundless joy life has to offer one stroke at a time.

“Working in the (sometimes) soul-destroying world of digital marketing for the best part of my career, I found myself entering a dark hole. Feeling lost in a world of facetune and filters I craved the world before devices; a time when we lived blissfully in the moment (in lieu of documenting everything or it never happened). Having studied fine art at Parsons I always had the itch to go back to paint, as if there was some unfinished business that was halted by the ‘you will never make a living as an artist’ chat I was constantly confronting.

I had entered into a depression, frustrated and unfulfilled. I had nothing to lose and bought a box of paints and an enormous canvas. The first stroke felt like an immediate weight had been lifted, the intimacy of the brush swimming across the cotton, the endless colours and compositions I had to release. Layers upon layers of hidden messages, expression and positivity ensued. I had finally found the light.”
